(Beverly Hills) Powerhouse Latin fusion music promoter Julieta Isela of The Living Sessions teamed up with Gypset Magazine publisher Diana Carolina last week to launch a dynamite music series, kicked off by LA-based Latin heart throb Ricky Lov at the Gibson Guitar Showcase room. Performing before a packed and mostly Spanish-speaking audience, Lov previewed his new single, Hershey and then rocked the room with his brand of high energy, high octane, high romance pop rock.
With much more elaborate staging than normally seen at the Gibson, including dancers, backup singers, and a wall-sized video screen with pre-programmed visuals, Lov’s concert demonstrated the expanded capability of the collaboration between The Living Sessions and Gypset Magazine to mount high quality events with top talent. An open bar and fanciful hors d’oeuvres and deserts added to the quality of the concert and the promise of a great new addition to LA’s live music scene
The Living Sessions is known for its Girls Rock LA series, promoting up and coming female-led bands, as well as other events both in and outside of Los Angeles. In a very short time, it has become a fixture in the LA ALM (American Latino Music) music scene and a driving force behind the growth of ALM. Gypset is a bilingual online platform that covers emerging artists in television, film, music, style, consciousness, culture, gastronomy, and travel in LA and beyond. Gypset Magazine has produced a number of music events including showcases at the Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas and numerous fashion shows in multiple cities. Gypset publisher Diana Carolina co-hosts the national radio program MúsicaFusionLA.
Both The Living Sessions and Gypset Magazine are testimonials to the entrepreneurial energy and economic impact of immigrants in LA. Isela immigrated to the US from Mexico and Carolina from Columbia. Both are citizens and have invested time, money, energy, and creativity in what are now flourishing businesses that employ others and raise the profile of Los Angeles as a cultural and music capital around the world while they provide a platform for many LA to grow their careers.
The Living Gypset music series promises to kick up the ALM music scene a notch in La and beyond with a wide variety of fast rising talent both from LA and other cities, familiarizing new audiences with Latino-influenced fusion genres. Artists at the series meet with writers from Gypset and other media beforehand for interviews, enhancing the impact of the series. Past guests have included the BMI star New York-based ElJuri, jazz singer Nancy Sanchez, and the queen of love songs, Irene Diaz.
