Somehow we pulled it off another entry in “new to the music lowdown” for a 2nd week in a row. I wonder if this will continue. This weeks theme is Holiday Jewels those hidden Gems that I have discovered over this summer period.
I’d like to start with Cracked Vinyl a band that I saw for the first time at The Swan With Two Necks in Macclesfield when they were performing for a local charity event in aid of Oxfam.
Cracked Vinyl – “If u have the passion and commitment to be a band then nothing can really get in your way”
We all loved the same music and this brought us closer as friends and we then decided to form a band because we all loved the thought of performing together and this has brought us even closer as a band and as best friends.
For young musicians it must be incredibly difficult juggling work, school and jobs do you have any advice for any other bands that are starting out?
If u have the passion and commitment to be a band then nothing can really get in
your way. We practise on days where we are all free and we all agree on everything together. We work as a team.
What has been your favourite moment as a band so far?
Every time we perform we get a buzz which is why we do it, but the best moments are when the crowd are singing along and cheering us on. Nothing beats how you feel in that moment.
What has been your most memorable performance?
The most memorable performance has to be our very first gig, opening for a local band. You get a sense if accomplishment that all the hard work and practise you’ve put in has come together and been successful
If your band was a cartoon series which would they be?
ALLOISE – “Eyes of a killer”
Alloise only came to my attention only recently when I was sent this cracking track “Eyes of a Killer” which was recorded at Lakeside Studio’s. The way the track builds and changes throughout is brilliant, but why not check it out for yourself below.
Unlike the last band Alloise already has a huge following and her videos are rotated by MTV USA, and in the popular charts such as Uk-top 40 and in Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia and other countries.
She has a whole host of dates coming up in Kyiv and Moscow fin out more on her website http://alloise.com/Tours/
I don’t think I will be jetting out there anytime soon but if you see her send us a message I’m sure she will be incredible live.
10 Bands 10 Minutes Holiday Banger: Madonna
I have to admit I was a little bit drunk at this event so my recollection of it may be a little bit hazy. One thing I have to say though is that if you get a chance to go to ten bands ten minutes do so it will be an absolute blast.
The event took place at The Kazimer in Liverpool a lovely venue with a great setup for live music. The prospect get 10 bands to perform a Madonna song in their own style and their own material.
The delivery, some bands fared better than most. At times it was difficult to tell where the band ended and Madonna began, is that a good thing though? you’ve adapted it so well that the crowd can’t tell it’s Madonna will leave your fans happy but strangers are a bit perplexed.
One band that got it down to a T were Rachel Wright & The Good sons, her ethereal voice had licks of Bat for Lashes’ Natasha Khan and was like a siren call across the venue captivating the audience.
