After only 6 months, the LA fusion jazz phenomenon Nick Valentini’s UCLA-based ensemble the NV Collective is set to release its first album. The Collective has brought its ground-breaking brand of jazz-rock-fun-experimental music to rock clubs around the city, packing in audiences who would not normally respond to a jazz band. Valentini joins us to talk about how the NV-Collective shows that “experimental” can also be popular.
Also experimenting is the queen of the New York City dance scene, Salme, now experimenting with new forms, including a ballad and teaming up with the punk artist Mikey P. Her fifth album, the third and final Chapter of the Pop Propaganda series is in the works and she is releasing two of the singles this Friday on Music Friday Live, along the new song she and P dropped last week, 1-2-3-4-5. This will be a full interview, following up on last week’s surprise drop-in.
