For those readers that haven’t heard of you before could you tell us a little bit about the band your story?
We are a 4 piece that formed in Wrexham, North Wales in May this year. Although we are based in Wrexham, 3 of us are from Chester. Our Drummer, Laz is the Welsh man. We have pretty similar influences so hit it off straight away! Our mutual love for 90’s rock from both sides of the Atlantic is what gels us together. We do all have our own own personal guilty pleasures of course, but I’m not going to give that away on a first date!
Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?
Personally, I’ve never regarded myself as a Performer when it comes to music. I think I can speak on behalf of all the band when I say, we’re in it for the music – Purely. It’s a very emotive thing for us and we’re way too wrapped up in the music to even think about choreography ha!
What do you do to stand out when you are on stage, when you are performing?
Quite simply, we give it all we’ve got and try to play our songs to the best of our ability each and every gig. We rely on our music a lot to attract audiences. I mean, we’re not static but we just do what we do and get in to it. There is a part in our live set during ‘We Are The Out Door’ where I play a Floor Tom and do a percussive duet with Laz. That appears quite theatrical and responsive but, it’s all just us being us.
What is the most interesting venue you have performed at?
Liverpool Pier Head. I’m sure combined, we’ve all played many an “Interesting” venue over the years… However, to perform on the banks of the Mersey right in front of the Liver Building on a Summers night was pretty special for Souljacker.
Where do you draw inspiration from when writing music?
Right now, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and Eels to name a few… But I find inspiration for lyrics and melodies everywhere! I try to be different when it comes to writing riffs/ chord sequences and build on them without trying to do the same thing twice. Lyrically, I’m pretty transparent. I’m still wearing my heart on my sleeve…
Do you have any plans to release an album or an EP soon?
We’re recording some 8-Track demos at our rehearsal space in Wrexham right now. They’re getting uploaded to YouTube in sequence. There’s 5 demos online at the moment to check out. We’ll all just have to wait and see what happens after that.
What do you think is missing from today’s music industry?
Here at Artistic Echoes we are always on the look out for new music, do you have anyone to recommend?
We played with a Liverpool band called Arcadia Sun at the Pier Head. They are awesome and well worth checking out live! Also, there’s a young Wrexham band called The Undrclass, I’ve taken a shone to. You can check out both bands on Spotify.
What plans do you have for the rest of the year?
Well, as Festival season comes to a close, I think we’ll just be tightening up our set, adding a few new songs and get some real recording done.
