For those people that haven’t heard of Fabrik could you tell us a little bit about the band your story?
We’re a 4 piece act from Birmingham. We use loops and samples to build up our songs before adding our live instruments.
Which artists or album have really stuck with you and informed your sound?
Dummy by Portishead has had an impact. Also some ethereal stuff like Boards of Canada and Tycho.
Could you tell us a bit the writing and recording of your latest single Black Lake?
The song started with the bassline which repeats through the song. I wrote something inspired by Arctic Monkeys “Do you wanna know” and then the band added all of their parts and it took a different path. The lyrics were written when our singer was in Thailand watching a storm over a huge lake.
Black Lake was recently featured on US TV series “Light as a Feather” how did that come about?
We signed to a publisher this year – Anara Publishing. They managed to secure the deal for us from their contacts stateside. We’ve had a lot of interest from the US as a result.
You’ve recently released a video of the track, how did the recording of that go?
Yeah good. This was the first of our 11 videos that was filmed by someone outside of the band. We tend to do everything ourselves but I think with this we wanted an extra bit of class so got a guy we know to film it. Our singer visualised and directed the video.
Do you have any plans to release and EP or an album soon?
Yes in the early part of next year, we have a remix EP coming out. We’ve been getting remixes for every track on our first album.
Later in 2019 we hope to have our second album completed and released.
What do you think is missing from today’s music industry?
Its hard. SO much has changed in such a short amount of time. You can now access so much music at the click of a button. But in some respects there is so much music you can get lost in amongst so much other music. That said the convenience of these things mean they are not going away anytime soon so you need to find ways to embrace them.
Here at Artistic Echoes we are always on the lookout for new artists do you have anyone you can recommend?
A few Birmingham bands for you. Lycio, Hunger Moon & Paper Buoys
