For those readers that haven’t heard of you before could you tell us a little bit about the band, your story?
Ebb & Nova started as a duo in 2015 with Lauren Padgett and Matthew Purpora. Together we played coffee shops and local cafes until 2016 when we were joined by Steven Bainbridge on cello and Pat Brynes on percussion. Backed by a full band, our unique sound of indie/folk took off and put us on main stages and festivals across the east coast.
Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?
Lauren’s inspiration to perform came from her grandfather, the famous cowboy singer, Don Edwards. As a child she always admired his performances and knew she would do whatever it takes to be performing in front of audiences globally.
The rest of the gang was inspired to perform by artists such as Foo Fighters, Coheed and Cambria, and Yo-Yo Ma.
Could you tell us a bit about the writing/recording of the reverbnation winning track Willow?
Willow was written to reflect nature and love. The idea actually came from witnessing two lovers under a willow tree. They were so warm and sincere that it inspired us to write a love song! When recording it, we just wanted to keep it simple and be true to that essence of love.
What has been your favourite venue to perform at?
We love playing at Metro Gallery in our hometown of Baltimore, MD. We have played alongside many talented musicians there including Lewis Watson!
Where do you draw inspiration from when writing songs?
We draw from reality – we find ourselves mostly inspired by the complexities of human emotion and the hardships and joys of everyday life. Occasionally we write songs about black holes and pirate ships too.
You are recoding some Vinyl sessions in June, that sounds like it will be interesting?

What do you think is missing from today’s music industry?
Not being afraid to present the raw version of yourself. Nowadays, music is so artificially enhanced and manipulated, whether in the studio or live, that you lose the simplicity of sound.
