For those people that haven’t heard of Vandebilt could you tell us a bit about yourself your story?
Jordan wrote a load of dance tracks and thought it would be good to put a band together. He asked Dan, Jack, and Joe separately in the pub. Dan has dropped out of his master’s degree to pursue the band. Hopefully, he’s made the right decision as he now picks clothes in a warehouse and it’s hasn’t really got any career prospects.
Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?
John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Which artists did you listen to growing up and are there any particular artists that have stuck with you over the years?
A range of people including Frank Sinatra, Bread, Donald Byrd, Jeff Lynne, Sly, Human League, ABC, Tears for Fears, The Eagles, The Beach Boys, Pet Shop Boys, Talking Heads, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Frankie Knuckles and Henry Mancini.
I’m loving the video for your latest single “Dream in Colour”, how did you come up with the concept?
After drinking about 10 pints in the Ship Isis in Sunderland.
What do you think a band needs to have lasting credibility in the music industry?
Good melodies, a few major and minor 7th chords and a good sense of humour.
What is the most interesting venue that you have performed at?
We played a gig at the oldest railway station in the world last summer, which was pretty cool but for us, it has to be Band On The Wall in Manchester due to its rich history of performances.
What is your proudest moment as a band so far?
We got told recently that we are the best thing to come from Sunderland by someone in Bristol. I mean, there’s some canny things that have come from Sunderland! Pyrex…Vaux brewery…the shipyards…Chillino’s..
What do you think is missing from the music industry today?
There’s not enough feel-good tunes. Everything is slightly depressing. Hopefully, we can lift some spirits and maybe drink a few in these dark times.
