For those that haven’t heard of Glossii could you tell us a bit about the band your story?
We have all known each other for around 4 years but only formed the band a year and a half ago. The band is based on friendship and the love of music that we all share together. We started off the band with Charlie and Lewis wanting to dress in drag on stage and then asking Sofia to join in. We still centre the band around the idea of androgyny and trying to push more androgynous bands to the front.
Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?
Personally for me (Reuben) I was first inspired by my Dad, he’s always played the drums and he introduced me to playing and too many amazing band/artists that I still love and look up to today.
Are there any particular artists or albums that have stuck with you over the years and have informed your sound?
I listen to a wide range of genres and I appreciate any artist’s work. Some of my favourite albums are, ‘Untitled’ by ‘blink-182’, ‘Spilt Milk’ by ‘Jellyfish’, ‘Only Revelations’ by ‘Biffy Clyro’ and finally, ‘Racecar is Racecar Backwards’ by, funnily enough, ‘Reuben’, but it ain’t me!
I’m always unconsciously being influenced by bands I listen to, it’s all part of being a musician.
What do you think makes a good live performance?
Energy. If a live performance doesn’t have energy then it’s going to be much more easily forgotten. Energy creates involvement which makes an audience feel more personally attached to a band/artist.
Could you tell us a bit about the writing and recording of the ReverbNation winning track Jank?
Jank was written in the first few months of the band being together, at this stage we were still trying to find our own sound and Jank was the first one that stood out from all the others. Before going into the studio with George Murphy it hadn’t quite got the power we wanted it to have. Although, with the adding of keys and sub-bass we felt it come to life.
Are there any plans to release an EP soon?
We might be planning to release an EP soon and we are going to be recording some very exciting singles as well so keep your eyes peeled…
What is the most interesting venue you’ve performed at?
The most interesting venue we have played has to be The 100 Club. The walls are covered with photographs of legends that have played the same stage. Charlie rugby tackled Sofia for the first time on that stage which also made it stand out.
Here at Artistic Echoes, we are always on the lookout for new artists do you have anyone to recommend?
Some bands we enjoy are Haze, Milk Disco, The Garden, Plague Vendor and Walt Disco.
What plans do you have for the rest of the year?
Our plans are to go back into the studio, write some more sexy tunes and play some more amazing shows and festivals for you. We will see you there
