This year The Echoes award for Songwriter Of The Year goes to Charlie John. Charlie was born into a family of singer/songwriters and musicians, and by the age of six, he was singing and performing with his siblings, for family and friends. “I wrote my first song when I was 18. Took it to the studio and everything. I now realize it wasn’t my best work,” Charlie laughs, “but that’s what it takes. Writing bad songs to get to the good ones.”
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Charlie made a life-changing move to Los Angeles in early 2019. “My recent move to LA was huge,” Charlie says, “Both for my career and personally. This was the biggest move (Ohio to Cali) that I’ve ever done in my life, and it was to a spot where I could potentially meet some awesome people and musicians. As one would imagine, I was very scared and excited. Now that I’m 11 months into LA, I’ve met some amazing musicians and written with some great people that will only improve on what I was accomplishing by myself.
Recently, Charlie decided to release singles, instead of waiting to release a full album. So far, he’s released “I Can’t”, “Before You”, “Say,” and “Sun Comes Up.” Charlie says he’s having fun releasing singles and intends to continue releasing a single every month indefinitely. His newest single “All Over Again,” is set for release on December 6th, and is a bit of a departure from his other tracks. “This one is about anxiety,” Charlie says, “but it’s a different genre of track for me. It’s less singer/songwriter and more rock/blues. I’m interested in exploring this area of music for a while, and I’m so excited for the world to hear it!”
