Release in late 2018 and re-released in 2019 for awards, Angel Baby sung by Nancy Sanchez and directed by John Cantú is both exquisitely beautiful and a very pointed story. A reworking of the original song written by Rosalie “Rosie” Méndez Hamlin in 1960 when she was only 15 years old, it updates the tale to today and recasts it with an angelic couple after they both die in a car accident. But not just any angels – brilliant white-clothed Latinos who move throughout the world helping people, especially people suffering injustice. Written and directed by John Cantú and produced by John Avila, the video successfully tells an old story in modern images and the beautiful vocals of jazz and mariachi singer Nancy Sanchez.
