Although Shelly Peiken is a force to be reckoned with, especially when she advocating for the rights of songwriters, she is a really nice person – no one would call her a “bitch”…except thousands of fans of the hit song she wrote in 1997 for Meredith Brooks, “Bitch” She has three number one hits and has co-written songs for Christina Aguilera, Brandy, Celine Dion, Cher, Reba McEntire, and many others plus has had hundreds of songs licensed for TV and film. But “Bitch”, nominated for the Best Rock Song Grammy in 1998, remains not only her signature song but a message as fresh and meaningful today as it was two decades ago. Peiken – who has been Grammy-nominated for a spoken word version of her book, Confessions of a Serial Songwriter, is one of the most talented writers on the music scene today – songs or prose.
