Have you heard the NEW Alt. Pop coming out of Beantown recently? Your answer should be a resounding YES because there is no way the music of Juniper is not being blasted! But just in case you are still sleeping on talent, here’s your wake-up call.
Straight out of Boston, Juniper’s latest EP entitled Distance Keeps Me Distant is fully laced up with some smokin music. The EP holds nine tracks, and one interlude, that personify the emotions, actions, and reactions of relationships. Eclectically, each Alt. Pop track infuses elements of Soul, Rock, R&B, and some flavors of Folk to create emotionally driven and super pumped music.
In this capsule review, two of the nine tracks will be highlighted: “Daydream (brake Lights)” and “Driving’ (feat. Claudia).”
If you are an avid Funk, Soul, R&B warrior, then “Daydream (brake Lights)” is going to be your Jawn. It’s a song that tells the story of new love being like a daydream with hopes that one day this dream-like feeling will become a reality. Play official video here.
Being raised in Baltimore City Maryland, this video brought so many nostalgic memories of the urban jungle – the natural scenes of dawn and dusk, the rooftops, the city streets…. The video greatly illustrates the first date, will there be a second date, scenario.
The dual guitar lines create a great spine of the track – the bass and lead. Those thumps and clicks are nice. The lead vocalist lays into the track so smoothly that it amazingly almost comes across as another instrument. Very visual in its entire execution, “Daydream” grabs a hold of you and does not let go. This track will have you strung out with its swagger!
This groove keeps up with the next track “Driving’ (feat. Claudia).”
“Driving’ (feat. Claudia)” includes more of a pulsated instrumentation effect which mirrors the thought pattern of being eclipsed by love. This track is a bit spunky and has a light aura to its beat commands. From the horn section to the tambourine, all is forgotten when one listens to this track. Lyrically, the harmonies and lead vocals are sugar and spice. The vocal scales created by the frontman and Claudia makes the track play flirty. In its entirety, “Driving’s” catchy melody, as well as the lead vocal performance with those on-point instruments evoke the mood. Sweet! Check out the official video here.
BONUS: pay attention to “Overthinking” – it is just one of those contemplative tracks that feel right. The soft backing vocals give off a soft Rock vibe that puts the listener in the frame of mind to think about the world around them inspiring forethought of what’s next.
From the love-longing “Angelina,” on to the subtle like caramel “Puzzle Pieces,” to the title track, every listener will find a token to carry with them from this EP.
With modern beat commands, which makes for a CHARGED selection of music, this trio is doing music the way that music used to be done, with storylines, true vocals, minimal vocal FX (none needed), and strong instrumentation that refreshingly reminds its listeners of being conscious of reality.
