Review: Weatheredman and the Noise – Slot Machine – An artist not afraid to experiment to make hits

I pretty much know when the listening audience is ready to explore something different when it comes to music – something different that is inviting.  So, there’s no need to wait. Weatheredman and the Noise, a 2-piece Rock band from the UK, is leaving their fingerprint this autumn with their latest track “Slot Machine” coming off their album Shadows in my Downtime.  And everything about this song is so right on every level – we got the noise; we got the juice (story); we got the voice; and we got distinction – distinction from the norm.  So, breathe in a sigh of relief!  Ahhh! And, just listen.  Simply magic!

The way the lead and backing vocals were executed makes the track play like a dark ballad, but the highlighted lead guitar riff that plays along the spine of the track keeps the song bright.  The line that sings:  I’m in love with a joker in a deck of cards, I’m in love with a slot machine, clearly illustrates the premise of the entire song.  The descending guitar riffs add a sense of mystery and highlights that subtle Dance Rock appeal.  By creating a track that has a guitar-heavy musical direction, and using vocal FX, this song carries a big sound without killing the eardrums.

The electric guitar playing along with the electric keyboard is very 1980s in its delivery and gives the track a wonderful musical integrity.

“Slot Machine” will give rise to an interesting turn of events in music – one where artists are not afraid to experiment and make hits.  This track does just so – this is a hit that will weather any storm in the industry as it has a storyline, awesome instruments, creativity, and a vocal that shares both subtle enthusiasm and prudence.
