For those people that haven’t heard of you before could you tell us a bit about yourself and your story?
Yes of course! My name is Bianca Jazmine, and I’m a Cuban-American singer-songwriter currently based in Los Angeles, California. I began my musical journey at a very young age, always leaning on singing and writing as a way to express all the big emotions I was feeling in such a tiny body. Hypersensitivity is both a blessing and a curse – it’s allowed me to really absorb the world around me in such a detailed & vivid way, but also led to extreme overwhelm until I learned how to craft the intensity of the world around me into art. After years of practising this, my introspective songwriting and big-picture perspective has developed a sound dedicated to growing with grace.
Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?
I started performing onstage as early as 5 years old, beginning in the world of dance. My parents were a huge inspiration for me to perform on stage, as they always encouraged any creative endeavors among my sisters and me. I made my way through musical theatre and instrumental performances until high school, which was the first time I sang solo onstage during my school’s annual talent show. The year prior to when I performed, I attended as an audience member and felt so moved by the students singing. They were kids who were in my peer group, sharing their talents and vulnerability with the whole school. I was so moved by their courage that I decided I wanted to cultivate that same bravery in others; so the following year – I auditioned!
Are there any artists or albums that have stuck with you and informed your sound?
When I first started writing songs, I was a huge fan of Twenty One Pilots. The biggest thing I took away as a listener was their open-minded approach. I loved how their styles varied from song to song, and they didn’t pigeonhole themselves into a singular genre. I do believe this leaked into my own work, as my songs also cover a large range of sounds and genres. Growing up, I also listened to the entirety of The Beatles’ discography. Their experimental style and worldly lyrics stuck with me as a creative; they certainly encouraged everyone to think outside the box.
Do you have any songwriting rituals?
I often write down little phrases that pop into my head, I like to call them “seeds.” These thoughts might come across while meditating, driving, or showering, or it can be a connection I make after a situation occurs. I’ll pull from this list of “seeds” when writing lyrics, with the goal of planting them and letting them bloom into songs!
Could you tell us a bit about the writing/recording of the ReverbNation winning track Pain’s Got A Rhythm?
Pain’s Got A Rhythm has been through quite the journey. I originally wrote this song myself on the piano. It was born into this world as a 6/8 piano ballad, and soon became an energetic rock favorite at my live shows, usually involving crowd-surfing by my bandmates! Once we brought it into the studio, more electronic and experimental sounds were added in the production process, eventually shaping it into the song it is today!
Do you have any plans currently to release an EP or album?
Absolutely! I am currently releasing singles leading up to a full album release, projected for next year.
Where are some of your favourite places to perform?
I’m currently based in LA and I’ve had the pleasure of performing at so many cool venues across town. One of my favorites is The Hotel Cafe – such an intimate vibe and the energy is always so intentional and supportive there. Molly Malone’s is another awesome spot – it has a no-frills Irish front but the sound is absolutely stellar there. In my original stomping grounds of South Florida, I’ve played some of my favorite shows at Respectable Street.
Here at Artistic Echoes, we are always on the lookout for new artists do you have any to recommend?
I’ve been really enjoying Liana Flores lately, especially the songs “rises the moon” and “recently,” off of her EP “recently.” They’re simple yet trance-like in quality, and I’m a huge fan of all the references to nature.
What plans do you have for the rest of the year?
As I close out 2022, I’ll be reflecting, crafting, and planning out my upcoming single releases for early next year! I’ll be keeping the process updated on my Instagram (@biancajazminemusic). I’m so excited to share this new music with everyone. 🙂
