For people who have not heard of Tez could you tell us a bit about the band, and your story?
We are a four-piece indie/indie rock band based around Canterbury, Kent. The project Tez started as a bedroom project with me writing and producing in my room. Having played in bands before and hearing how the tracks were shaping up, I was really excited to transform the project into the band we are now. We started jamming together back in about March or April of this year, and already starting to write new stuff – I’m very excited.
Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?
A bit of everyone and everything, I think something can be taken from every performance. Musically I love Jazz, lo-fi, indie and ambient sounds in general to be honest especially the likes of Palace, Foals, Syd Arthur, Still Woozy, Ben Howard.
Are there any particular artists or albums that have inspired your sound and stuck with you through the years?
Specifically no, but I think elements of all the above artists had a subtle part to play in the evolution of the sound. The more you listen, I feel you start to subconsciously pick up on the little things, especially tones and eventually pets appear in your own workings.
Could you tell us about the writing/recording of the Syncr Music Winning track “What Do You Dream”?
The writing process started with a riff. Like most of our songs, I just start playing and hit record on voice memos. On holiday in Thailand, we had a train journey down to Chumphon. Inspired by the view I began listening to the memo, writing down the bits I liked and adjusting the mumbled lines that didn’t make sense. A few hours into the journey the track was done, as soon as I got home I began tracking it out in my room and 3 months later it was the track it is today.
You recently released an EP “Mind Waves” how has the reception been to the record?
To be honest, so much better than expected and we’re super grateful and excited about it. The tracks all got played on BBC Introducing, some of them multiple times, the week of release and the shares and streams just keep on growing which we can’t thank everyone enough for!
What are some of your favourite places to perform?
To be honest, our first gig is tomorrow so I guess that will be the favorite so far. But we are playing at Festival Tiefantal in Switzerland next month, which we’re buzzed for.

Sure, a couple of local-ish bands to us Martha Eve and The Circus Birds are well worth checking out.
What plans do you have for the rest of the year?
We have a few gigs lined up locally and continue to keep growing that throughout the year. There’s new music in the early writing stages too, so they’ll be more out by the end of the year for sure!
