Review: Harri Larkin – Get that Girl Away

In the world of music today, if a band says that they are void of a record deal, financing, or management, how many of you would pass them along thinking that their sound is probably not as good as the established, managed, labeled, artist?  Few? Several? More than 10?  Probably.  But do not let labels fool you.  A truly independent artist usually does not have one of the three things that I mentioned at the outset.  But here’s the kicker, you are right in thinking that the sound is usually a reflection of absence in financial backing, etc.  But recently, I have been hearing some smokin’ music coming from true independent artists who do not have financial support or a label’s backing.  I mean, these artists/bands sound better than the majors.  Harri Larkin is such a band!

The music, melodies, storylines, and vocals being created by this band is spot on with huge style and professionalism!

The first thing, Harri Larkin has a strong grab on fusing genres to create wonderful music.  For instance, their latest song, “Get that Girl Away,” is a Funk meets West Coast (USA) Pop Punk track that is sure to tattoo itself on your musical mind.

Driven by guitars and heavy percussion, “Get that Girl Away” is a lyrical depiction of flirting gone wrong.  The storyline is clearly illustrated in the band’s official video.  The lyrics have Harri acknowledging that booze and emotions make for unclear lanes.

At the 1:52 mark, an alluring bridge adds an emotional layer, and then at 2:10, the song scales back adding an audible reflection really placing the song’s theme in the front.  Then, the listener is driven back into the catchy hook.

I would place these guys in the ring with any major label Alternative bands and I know they would win!   I would love to hear a Rock ballad come from these guys!
