Hot Half Dozen: BINX, Elsa y Elmar, Chiquis, Athena, CLUBZ, Lainy Wilson with Miranda Lambert

Yoh!, single by BINX. Binx has set a goal, to produce a new song every 4 weeks and she is doing it. The result is not only a huge catalogue but a sonic history of her development as a singer and producer.  Yoh! Is another step forward. Multiple layers on a much more feminine and mature Binx than I have heard. The whole song is an earworm. Stream on Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and  Apple Music.

Palacio, álbum by Elsa y Elmar. Twelve songs, each different and each a gem. This album ranges from sweet to heavy dance, to soft rock to deep emotion. It now only shows her range, but offers a different view of Elsa y Elmar, a different look into her musical soul. A beautiful album. Spanish. Stream on all major platforms.

Diamantes VVS1, album by Chiquis. This is a mesmerizing album, whether or not you understand the Spanish or like the banda of regional Mexican music. Chiquis puts a persona touch on each song, all of which are written by teams of songwriters, including Carla Morison. In a few songs, she reams up with other artists like Don Elecktron and Los Aptos. She takes the tuba/accordion polka format of banda and injects melody, emotion, softness, and most important, her voice. The result is something unusual, something beautiful.  Spanish. Stream on all major platforms.

Dance Me at the End of Love, single video by Athena (Athena Andreadis)  I love this Leonard Cohen song and love the way Athena does it even more. I have followed her since her 2016 song “You Bring Me Luck”, and watched her talent and skill grow as she became a mother, sang in Greek and English, produced stunning songs like “Hands on Glass”. This arrangement of the Cohen song will carry you away.  Stream on all major platforms.

Palmares, single/EP by CLUBZ.  This Mexican duo brought a fresh retro sound to Mexican pop, and then moved beyond to something approaching dream rock, but with a beat and baseline arrangement that grabs you. Whether you are in the club dancing or just chillin’, these guys can worm into your ear and from there your mind. And you will every minute of it,  Stream on all major platforms.

Good Horses, single by Lainy Wilson with Miranda Lambert. You don’t normally think of country songs sweeping you away like the wind, but this one does. These two women not only harmonized like angels, but their arrangement is heavenly. It’s country with all the all the hallmarks (well,  no whisky or beer but there is a subtle truck reference) but it is a universe beyond.  Put this on replay. And check out Laney Wilson’s Wild Horses while you are on YouTube. Stream on all major platforms.
