Q&A: ReverbNation Competition Winner Niki J Crawford – Pain

For those people who haven’t heard of you before, could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a country girl from Springhill, Louisiana, who always knew I wanted to sing and act. I started at a very young age singin in church and had a family who loved me, told me, and made me believe I was enough, worthy and could do anything I wanted! I been singing ever since lol

Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?

I was always inspired by my Grandmother to do everything. But when I first saw Whitney  Houston, that’s when I said, “I want to do that. Get on stage, spread my wings and sing from my heart!”

What are some of the artists/albums that have stuck with you and inspired your sound?

Gospel, Soul Music, Live Bands/Live instruments. It’s too many to name but I love Mahalia Jackson, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Stevie, Whitney, Frank Sinatra, Staind, Jon Batiste.

I mean I can go on and on!!

Where do you write your music? Are you someone who is always coming up with song ideas?

I write all the time and anywhere. Ideas can come to me at any time, and I immediately try to record them on my voice recorder or write it down. Sometimes it writes itself right then and there, beginning to end. Sometimes I go back and think on it and finish it later. Or I sit with a band member. It just depends.

Please tell us about the ReverbNation competition winning track “Pain”?

Pain is about acknowledging the fact that we all use different coping mechanisms when we are in pain. Some of us drink, run, smoke, eat, avoid, people please, exercise, or get help. Either way, “It stops the pain“. PAIN is my way of saying, I’m here, I see you, I get it, you are not alone in this.

What has been your favourite experience as a musician?

Ahhhh. I have been blessed to have so many. A few would be being able to travel the world as a singer with some amazing Artist’s like Macy Gray, Chicano Batman, and Carlos Santana. Touring with my band, singing my songs and receiving the love is also amazing!

Do you have any plans to release an EP or an album?

Yes! We are currently finishing my third record now. We are excited to finally get that finished and plan to release singles along the way. One is out now called “You Are Enough“!

What is the most memorable place you have performed?

Wembley Stadium with Macy Gray!

On stage with Carlos Santana and he sang Happy Birthday to me in front of thousands of people! Performing on Jam in the Van for the first time and performing at Whale Rock Fest with my band, my songs!

Here at Artistic Echoes, we are always on the lookout for new artists do you have any to recommend?

Artist J Connor! His voice will bring you close the the Lord lol

What plans do you have for the rest of the year?

Finish my record, continue to promote my movies, and try to stay as healthy as possible 😉
