Dublin’s all-female alternative pop outfit Martina & The Moons continue their ascent with “Laundry Mat,” a track that’s earned its place in the current alt-pop conversation. Recently featured at Output Belfast and Ireland Music Week, and named “Hot for 2025” by Hot Press, the band blends grit, introspection, and melodic sophistication with striking clarity.
The song opens with a Chrissie Hynde-esque vocal delivery – cool, raw, and emotionally resonant – set against a backdrop of ’90s-inspired spoken-word verses, ambient textures, and tight drum loops. The guitars cut through with precision, adding tension and melancholy that deepen the track’s emotional core.
As the arrangement expands into its choral sections and bridge, Martina’s mezzo-soprano vocals shine, supported by a rich blend of alternative rock, folk storytelling, and pop sensibilities. The lyrics are sharp and ironic, exploring emotional detachment and gender roles with a satirical edge – though some may miss the nuance.

Inspired by a moment of reflection in front of a washing machine after reading about a domestic violence murder, the song becomes a poignant meditation on the absurdity of routine in the face of tragedy. It’s a wake-up call wrapped in melody.
If there’s a flaw, it’s in the song’s length. The final section, beginning at 2:17, loses some momentum and could benefit from a tighter edit. Still, it’s a minor blemish on an otherwise compelling release.
