You’ll Never Know, Remix, single, by Goldfrapp. The pop/electronic duo’s third album, two decades and they are as ethereal and playful as ever. This remix (which I like better than the original) has a moderate dance hall beat, soaring vocals, mysterious chorus, and overall built-in in earpleasre. Stream on Spotify and major platforms.
La Llorona by Angela Aguilar. I know, thousands of people have recorded the centuries-old classic Mexican folktale, “The Weeping Woman”. This one, produced by Pepe Aquilar, is different. Angela’s voice has a curl to it that adds deep emotion without the heavy breathing found in so many other versions (although she is produced with a liberal dose of reverb). One of the most played and sung songs in Mexico, it is tough to make it stand out but she did it. Spanish
Eres Toda Para Mi, single by Pilar Montenegro. Light, breezy, danceable, addictive, almost a classic in its own time. The music is familiar – it follows comfortable forms, but her voice makes it special. Fund and good listening. Makes you feel like you are in a high-end Mexico City club. Stream on major platforms. Silencio, single by Rubio and Salt Cathedral. The Chilean artist, composer, and producer Fran Straube (Rubio) and the Brookland-based Columbia pop due Rubio and Salt Cathedral play really well together. The mystical, avant-pop blend of EDM, trip-hop, and Andean-rooted music, with a bit of reggaeton, dembow, and trap around the edges, is an addictive earworm, as a close your eyes and trip song.
