The Echoes 2019 Blues Artist Of The Year for 2019 is Jack DeKeyzer, originally from London, England and now living in Ontario, Canada. Jack has been performing guitar-driven blues for more than 45 years, winning two Juno Awards and seven Maple Blues Awards, as well as several awards for songwriting.
Playing more than 100 shows a year in Canada and the United States. DeKeyzer, who Jeff Healey called, “The finest blues guitarist in Canada,” is known for his electrifying live shows. His music is steeped in Chicago Blues, Muscle Shoals deep soul, Memphis’ rock and roll, and London’s blues-rock.
His most recent album, Check Mate, is a 13-track tribute to the greats of Chess Records, including Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert King, Otis Rush, and more. Check Maten nominated for Juno’s 2019 Blues Album Of The Year.
DeKeyzer will be heading into the studio next month to start work on his 12th record, set for release in early spring 2020. DeKeyzer is excited about this Echoes Award. “It’s wonderful to be recognized in my homeland,” he says. He has yet to tour in the U.K. but says it’s definitely on his bucket list.
