Weekly Music Roundup Part 2 – Kendra Black, J.I with Myke Towers, Tommy Shaw, She Shred’s Magazine

This Love “(Ferringo Remix)”. New single by  Kendra Black   Produced by Italian producer Vittorio Ferrigno  “This Love” is full of jangles and distortions held together with the through-line of Black’s urgent voice.  If you are a fan, this is a must if only to hear how she can be molded and sculpted into a pop/electro format. Available at kendrablackmusic.com and on all digital platforms

“Spanglish” J.I with Myke Towers. Single and video.  The Brooklyn-based Latin breakout rapper teams up with Latin trap rapper  Myke Towers to produce a mostly English song that weaves both styles together in music that keeps your head bobbing, but does not engage your brain. The slickly produced video will drive feminists up the wall with its only woman being mostly decorative, despite being the object of the song. But, put it on repeat as you go about your da to keep our energy up and just enjoy.

“Fooling Yourself” by Tommy Shaw of Styx and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. Video.  Conducted by Liza Grossman, the CTOs and Shaw have created a work of art, a celebration of the 43rd anniversary of Styx’s triple-platinum album Grand Illusion is a video that is so much fun you will want to watch it every night. She Shreds Magazine is going digital. She Shreds Magazine has released its 20th and final print issue.  Founded in 2012,  She Shreds let the world know that there are female guitar players out there who can knock your socks off as well as any “guitar hero”. It featured the previously invisible women-identified guitar and bass players and gear nerds,  single-handedly making room where there wasn’t any for black, brown, LGBTQIA+ women and nonbinary players and beyond. This month She Shreds expands from print into a multi-media digital platform, She Shreds Media, which focus on the guitar as a tool for revolution and include performances and collaborations from artists featured in this issue, among many others.
