Alexa Van’s latest single “Space” is not your textbook standard for a song about liberation. But believe me, after one listen I promise there is no denying this stoic, empowering, track. “Space” relates to the story of a person who is trying to escape entrapment, but they are not having success as the tools needed to be set free is difficult to claim. This prison could refer to being caged mentally, physically, or soulfully.
To set the stage of this premise, and deliver a breathtaking song to the fans, Van executes her vocals with an unapologetic prowess that gives life to the song on many levels. The fusion of snappy Pop music with edgy Rock music supplies “Space” with an infectious vibe, one that stays with the listener long after the earbuds come out.

In addition, layering the vocals with the right amount of FX was a bold, yet clever, productive move as it gave the song a nice distinctive ambiance. This ambiance allows the listener to grasp the emotion of the vocal and the song’s message. Moreover, the technical effects, like the stifled vocals and spacious synths, strengthens the track, but this technique also allows the lone piano to become a statement piece.
Alexa Van’s brand of music is solid and contains an emotional core combined with an intense lyrical and musical component which will allow it to live on when others who attempt to be different fail. Bravo!
