Hot Half Dozen: Silvana Estrada, Bunbury, Irene Diaz, Magos Herrera, Carla Morrison, Shenseea

Tom’s Dinner, single/video by Silvana Estrada. So much fun, so lovely, so unusual for this 2022 Latin Grammy winner to deliver talking lyrics in English in this cover of Suzanne Vega’s classic song, and it works! She calls this song a Polaroid of the infinite moments of her past year. You will listen over and over. Video on YouTube. Stream on Spotify.

Alaska, single by Bunbury. Bunbury is back and he is mellow, happy, and deep in your ears and your heart. This is the second alt-rock single released from the upcoming Greta Garbo album and it is an earworm that holds you with its soft beat and holds you again with the melodies.  Spanish. Stream on Spotify.

Lost, single by Irene Diaz. Like all Irene Diaz songs you can only close your eyes and let the music and emotion flow over you. Her voice is seductive but almost sad and desperate as she soars on the wings of her notes through the heartbreak of loss. If you are a fan this will slide right into your Irene Diaz playlist; if you are not, you will be after you listened to Lost. Stream on Spotify.

AIRE, album by  Magos Herrera. This Mexican composer and jazz singer releases her newest album AIRE (Air) on May 5. The title track is luminous and hints at the masterpiece to come. The arrangement has both depth and whimsy, perfectly scaffolding her voice as it crosses effortlessly from ballad to classical. AIRE is in Spanish but the album promises 12 songs in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Stream the AIRE single on Spotify and the entire album on May 5.

Todo Fue por Amor, single by Carla Morrison. Morrison’s voice tiptoes through a flower field of music in Todo Fue por Amor and the result may be one of the best things Morrison has ever done. Delicate, passionate, hypnotic. Morrison has long been one of Mexico’s musical stars and Todo Fue por Amor is another reason why. Stream on all major platforms.  Spanish

Curious, single /video by Shenseea. This Grammy-nominated Jamaican artist has racked up millions of fans and streams and created such a global buzz that when this dancehall tune with catchy lyrics it shot up the charts.  It perfectly showcases her versatility as an artist – her last release was “Hallaluja”- she can do it all, ballads, rap, R&B, blues, dance.   The combination of the Jamaican patois and slick tropical/African rhythms will have you singing and dancing.   Eye-popping Video on YouTube. Stream on all major platforms.
