Q&A: ReverbNation Competition Winners The Slacksons – Examples

For those people who haven’t heard of The Slacksons could you tell us a bit about the band and your story?

I am Mikey from The Slacksons and we are well chuffed you love ‘It might be. It could be’, our new single as much as we do.

We are a Bristol, UK-based band that loves recording and performing… an eclectic dance/indie hybrid sound but most important is to use all genres go music to keep it moving and keep it fun and interestin.

Who inspired you to get on stage and perform?

Myself and Andy are inspired by so many artists but my first proper live gig was Blur at Cliffs pavilion in Southend on Sea, and it blew me away!  The energy they projected and that was it, I wanted some of it it.

Are there any artists/albums that inspired your sound and stuck with you?

Primal scream made a big impression on me, the cross-over with Rock guitar sounds and the Andy Wetheral dance production on Vanishing Point really hit the spot and inspired me.

Could you tell us a bit about the writing/recording of the ReverbNation Competition winning competition track “Examples”?

We record at Andy’s home studio at his apartment. We start with a very rough vocal idea usually pre-recorded in my van from the previous week, and then I pick a motive/story and add some words,  and as easy as that, we get the basis of the song.

What have been some of your favourite places to perform?

My favourite gig was on home turf at Mr Wolfs Bristol, the venue is small and sweaty and the crowd are always great there.

What has been your best experience as a band?

The best experience as a band was recording our video to our latest single ‘It might be it could be’ We had loads of fun and the outcome was spot on.

Do you have any plans for an EP or an album?

Our debut album ‘Plastic bags for Shoes’ is being released in Summer this year, so watch this space.

Here at Artistic Echoes, we are always on the lookout for new artists do you have any to recommend?

There is so much great new music out there, Pastel are a great new Manchester UK band with a nod to the old, but with fresh new sounds.

And my favourite album at the moment is 2nd exit self-titled, great bit of UK hip hop/jazz sounds.

What plans do you have for the rest of the year?

We have already started recording our second album so lots of energy is being put into that, and mainly rehearsing for our upcoming live shows. Next stop The Louisianna in Bristol on 3rd June
